Default HvH needs ranking

Hero vs Hero desperatly needs a ranking system so that players of relative skill are paired against each other.

Heres what I propose.

Everyone starts with 1200 points.

When you first start, you are a "provisonal" player.

You must fight through 10 matches to loose provisonal, during this time you win and loose rank points, neither you or your opponent may see your actual rank points during this time. During this time, you only fight other provisional players.

Winning and loosing points.

Winning a match gives you +Z
Loosing gives you - Z

Z = (X - Y) /2

Where X equals Player A's rank
Y equals Player B's rank

Basically, you win half the diffrence in rank between you and your opponet.

If X = Y
Then Z = 10

This will allow the match maker to more precisely pair up players based on thier rank points. Obs mode can also display the top ranked matches.

As there is a possiblity that some players will loose points until they reach 0. A Npc should be created in the Great Temple of Balth who basically "resets" your HvH status back to 1200.

Note: Upon resetting back to 1200, becoming provisional again would need to be decided by anet. On one hand, you would be going into a "newbie" area fully experienced. On the other, if players that reset were to become provisional again it would keep the number of provisional players up so that true new players will have players to fight against. This needs to be figured out by someone other than me

I am signed for the idea of ranking system for HvH, it does not however, in my opinion, have to be so complex

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system
That is a complex system.

Quote:
R_A^\prime = R_A + K(S_A - E_A).
My system is much much simpler.

I'm all for the idea of a ranked HvH system, but I don't think yours is the greatest tbh. The better the opponent that beats you, the more you are punished?

well he only had half of it I think

It should be more like you have score Player A (lowerrank) Player B (Higher rank)

If A wins then A gets +z and B gets -z

However if B wins, somehow it would have to relate to inverse z

Like have a constant made x and...

B gets + X/z and A gets -x/z

This doesn't exactly work tho

But I don't see why Elo would not work, Yahoo games can run Elo ranks lol I don't see why guild wars couldn't

Note: scratch that the Z thingy won't even work period. If A = 1200 and B = 1200 then they go +-10 according to above. If A =1198 and B= 1200 then they only go +- 1, even tho they are further apart.
